Tetra Pak, a world leading food processing and packaging solutions company, released its Carbon Neutrality Action Report 2022 recently, taking the lead in evaluating and disclosing its carbon emissions while promoting its own operational emission reduction in the value chain in China.

According to the report, the emission from its operation only accounts for 1 percent of the overall emissions in its value chain.

Tetra Pak China has taken the lead in conducting a carbon emission evaluation, covering major value chain elements such as upstream products, transportation, and end of product disposal, said the report.

The report shows that the other indirect emissions from its value chain in 2022 were 1.1 million tons of carbon dioxide equivalent, with a relatively large proportion being upstream raw and additional materials, raw material and finished product transport, and the end-of-life management of packages.

Angela Mou, vice-president of corporate communications at Tetra Pak China, said, "The start of accounting and disclosing other indirect emissions in the value chain is of great significance for implementing Tetra Pak's climate strategy and achieving our carbon neutrality goals in China. Based on the scientific data, we can be clear of the overall climate impact of Tetra Pak China's value chain and each element, so that we could identify the focus areas and work closely with our partners across the value chain on those areas to reduce the carbon emissions."

In 2022, Tetra Pak's direct emissions from its own operations on the Chinese mainland will be 11,500 tons of carbon dioxide equivalent, down from 2021.

By 2022, the company's all factories on the Chinese mainland have fully installed and put into operation the Common Energy Monitoring System, which helps to find more accurate energy-saving space, said the company.
