China expresses strong opposition to G7 statement

China expressed strong opposition to the recent joint statement and declaration on maritime security and prosperity issued by the Group of Seven Foreign Ministers' meeting, urging the bloc to stop harming its sovereignty and interfering in its internal affairs.

The two documents released on Friday once again hyped up issues related to China, expressing concerns about the Taiwan question, maritime matters, China's cooperation with Russia, the alleged "overcapacity," and China's military development.

Speaking at a daily news briefing, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said the joint statement and declaration by the G7 foreign ministers disregarded facts, distorted the truth, as well as slandered and defamed China

She emphasized that the Taiwan question is at the core of China's core interests and does not allow for any external interference.

The overall situation in the South China Sea is stable and there are no issues with freedom of navigation and overflight, she added.

On the Ukraine issue, Mao said China refused to accept the blame-shifting from the G7, as it has consistently advocated for peace and dialogue and never provided lethal weapons to any party in the conflict, while strictly controlling dual-use items.

Noting China adheres to the path of peaceful development, she said China's defense spending is essential for safeguarding national sovereignty, security, and development interests, and is open, transparent, and reasonable.

The G7 avoids discussing the United States' nuclear disarmament responsibilities and the risks of nuclear proliferation posed by the US-UK-Australia trilateral security partnership, instead pointing figures at China, which Mao said is a blatant double standard.

The so-called overcapacity in China has been proven to be a false proposition, she said, adding that G7 members should stop politicizing and weaponizing economic and trade relations, cease disrupting the international economic order, and impacting the stability of the global supply chain.

Mao urged the G7 to recognize the global situation, abandon the Cold War mentality and ideological biases, and refrain from provoking conflicts and confrontations.
