Shanghai Disney Resort breaks ground on Spider-Man-themed land

Shanghai Disney Resort officially launched construction of its ninth themed land, inspired by Spider-Man, on May 19, marking another major expansion of the theme park.
The new land, located adjacent to Zootopia, will feature Shanghai Disneyland's first major Marvel-themed attraction — a thrill coaster centered on Spider-Man. The development will also include retail outlets, dining facilities, and entertainment venues, all aligned with the Spider-Man theme.
This expansion, first revealed at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event in 2024, represents the third major addition to Shanghai Disneyland since its opening in June 2016. The park previously added Disney·Pixar Toy Story Land in April 2018 and Zootopia in December 2023.
The groundbreaking ceremony for the new themed land was attended by executives from Shanghai Disney Resort, Walt Disney Imagineering Shanghai, Shanghai Shendi Group, and the Administrative Commission of Shanghai International Resort.
The resort also unveiled plans for an extensive Pixar-themed celebration in June. The event will introduce three new Pixar characters to the park: Carl Fredricksen from Up, Bing Bong from Inside Out, and Edna Mode from The Incredibles. The characters will debut in a special show on the E-Stage on June 3.

From June 3 to 19, visitors can meet various Pixar characters — including Joy and Sadness from Inside Out, Lotso from Toy Story 3, Sulley from Monsters, Inc., and Red Panda Mei from Turning Red — for special, limited-time greetings in Toy Story Land, Tomorrowland, and Adventure Isle.
The Stargazer Grill, a restaurant in Tomorrowland, will reopen on June 3 as Stargazer Grill Pixar Celebration following a comprehensive renovation. The restaurant will feature Pixar-themed decor and a menu inspired by various Pixar characters and stories.
