Shanghai airport promotes paperless boarding

China Eastern Airlines and Shanghai Airport Authority launched a green travel initiative at Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport's Terminal 2 from July 8, running through to Oct 8.
The program promotes low-carbon and smart air travel by utilizing paperless boarding passes, while also offering bonus incentives. Its goal is to provide a seamless, efficient, and eco-friendly experience powered by full-process digital innovation.
Passengers can use their electronic boarding pass (Smart Pass) or ID card to complete check-in, payments, security screening, and boarding procedures, streamlining the travel process and significantly reducing paper waste.
Beyond passenger services, the campaign extends the green concept throughout the terminal. Prominent QR codes and digital screens have been installed in key areas, including check-in, security, and boarding zones, providing intelligent, real-time guidance.
To encourage participation, the campaign introduces a bonus incentive: each day, eight travelers who opt for paperless boarding will be randomly selected to receive 200 mileage points and priority boarding privileges. The offer applies to China Eastern and Shanghai Airlines flights departing from Hongqiao during the campaign period.
