Shared future emphasized by Xi has global implications, says Turkish scholar

The 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China has set up the roadmap which China would follow over the next five years and the objectives set forth in the congress would have implications for the entire world, a professor in Turkey told China Daily.

"We certainly live in a more connected world where China is one of the key players," said Sebnem Koser Akcapar, director of Asia Center at Koc University.

China has become a leading actor in world economy and politics, and therefore China's priorities and policies are of global significance, she said.

China has been making efforts to reform and develop the global governance system. Xi Jinping, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, emphasized the community of a shared future for mankind in his keynote report delivered to the Party Congress on Oct 18.

"We are very pleased to hear that President Xi underlined the significance of this interdependence," she said.

We share this world and face common problems, so it is only natural that we act together for our shared future and for upcoming generations, she said.

"If this concept can be brought to life in concrete steps, it can profoundly contribute to a more harmonious world order," she added.

According to Akcapar, the "Made in China 2025" initiative will help China to start its "new era" in its economic development, and the Chinese society is also a dynamic one and supports these projects wholeheartedly.

Speaking of China's development model, she thinks that China is making a transition toward a new model, where domestic consumption supplements exports, and investments are done with a focus on quality rather than quantity.

"This is not an easy transition, it requires structural reforms," she said, adding that the more successful the Chinese government is with these reforms, the higher will be the performance of the Chinese economy.

"I expect that in the next 10 years we will witness China producing new innovative products thanks to its fast modernizing economy," she added.
