Senior officials investigated by top anti-graft watchdog

Editor's note: A total of 17 senior ministerial-level officials and two national-level leaders had been probed on corruption allegations amid the strengthened anti-graft campaign by July 12. Here is a glance at the senior officials investigated by the country's top anti-graft watchdog:

Probed ministerial-level officials:

Ji Wenlin, 48, the then deputy governor of South China's Hainan province, was probed on Feb 18 on allegations of "grave violation of discipline and law". From 1998 to 2008, Ji was the secretary of a former senior security official. He was expelled from the Party organization on July 2 for taking advantage of his posts to seek benefits for others, demanding and receiving a huge amount in bribes, and committing adultery.

Zhu Zuoli, 59, the then vice-chairman of Northwest China's Shaanxi provincial political advisory body, was probed on Feb 19 for suspected "grave violation of discipline and law". He was removed from office on Feb 20.

Jin Daoming, 61, the then deputy director of North China's Shanxi Provincial People's Congress, was placed under investigation on Feb 27 for "grave violation of discipline and law". He was removed from office on March 1.

Shen Peiping, 52, the then vice-governor of Southwest China's Yunnan province, was probed on March 9 on allegations of "grave violation of discipline and law". He was removed from office on March 12.

Yao Mugen, 57, the then vice-governor of East China's Jiangxi province, was investigated on March 22 for suspected "grave violation of discipline and law". He was removed from his post on March 28.

Shen Weichen, 58, the then Party chief of the China Association for Science and Technology, was probed on April 12 on allegations of "grave violation of discipline and law". He was also a former member of the top anti-graft watchdog. He was removed from his post on April 17.

Song Lin, 51, the then chairman of China Resources, was probed on April 17 for suspected "grave violation of discipline and law". He was exposed by a whistle-blower who is a journalist at Xinhua News Agency. On April 23, he was replaced in his post in the State-owned enterprise by Fu Yuning, former chairman of the State-owned China Merchants Group and chairman of China Merchants Bank.

Mao Xiaobing, 49, the then Party secretary of Xining city, capital of Northwest China's Qinghai province, was placed under investigation on April 24 on allegations of "grave violation of discipline and law". He was expelled from the Party organization and removed from public office on July 16.

Tan Qiwei, 60, the then deputy director of the Chongqing Municipal People's Congress, was probed on May 3 for suspected "grave violation of discipline and law".

Yang Baohua, 67, former vice-chairman of Central China's Hunan provincial political advisory body, was investigated on May 26 after retirement. He was expelled from the Communist Party of China on July 15 on allegations including accepting bribes and adultery.

Zhao Zhiyong, 59, then a member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Jiangxi Provincial Committee, was removed from his post on June 3 for suspected "grave violation of discipline". He was stripped of Party membership on July 16.

Ling Zhengce, 62, the then vice-chairman of North China's Shanxi provincial political advisory body, was probed on June 19 on allegations of "grave violation of discipline and law". He was dismissed from his post on June 23.

Du Shanxue, 58, the then vice-governor of Shanxi province, was probed on June 19 for suspected "grave violation of discipline and law". He was dismissed from his post on June 23.

Wan Qingliang, 50, the then Party chief of Guangzhou, capital of South China's Guangdong province, was probed on June 27 on allegations of "grave violation of discipline and law".

Tan Li, 59, the then vice-governor of South China's Hainan province, was probed on July 8 for suspected "grave violation of discipline and law". He was removed from his post on July 10.

Han Xiancong, 59, the then vice-chairman of East China's Anhui provincial political advisory body, was placed under investigation on July 12 for suspected "grave violation of discipline and law".

Zhang Tianxin, 59, then a member of the standing committee of the CPC Yunnan provincial committee, was removed from his post on July 12 for suspected "grave violation of discipline and law".

Probed national-level officials:

Su Rong, 66, the then vice-chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference National Committee, the country's top political advisory body, was probed on June 14 on allegations of "grave violation of discipline and law". He was the first national-level official under probe since November 2012, when the CPC elected its new leadership. He was removed from his post on June 25.

Xu Caihou, 71, former vice-chairman of China's Central Military Commission, was expelled from the Party organization on June 30 on bribery allegations. Xu, a former member of the 25-strong Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, is the highest-ranking military officer under probe since the reform and opening-up in 1978.
