T-Wolves lose forward for the season
The Minnesota Timberwolves will have to make their late-season fight to reach NBA playoffs without forward Mark Madsen.
Madsen will miss the rest of the season after rupturing a ligament in his right wrist, the club announced Thursday.
Madsen suffered the injury in a March 15 game against the Dallas Mavericks (news) and plans to undergo season-ending surgery next week after discussing the matter with club officials.
"The risks were too great," Madsen said. "It's better to have the surgery."
Madsen missed 24 games this season due to a broken left thumb suffered in a the first half of a January 7 game against Philadelphia. He was a starter in 13 of 31 appearances, averaging 2.1 points and 3.1 rebounds a game.
The Timberwolves are 35-34, 2 1/2 games behind Denver for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference and two games ahead of the Los Angeles Lakers (news).
A 2000 first-round pick of the Lakers, Madsen was a reserve on Laker championship teams in 2001 and 2002. He is best known for entertaining Los Angeles fans with his awkward dance moves at the club's title celebrations.
