Much of China's rural population has access to safe drugs, according to a national seminar on food and drug safty held in Beijing Friday.

By the end of June, 73 percent of Chinese villages had been supplied with drugs by the national drug allocation network and 75 percent of them had been covered by the national drug supervision network, according to the State Food and Drug Administration ( SFDA).

The SFDA established drug supervision and supply networks in rural China in 2003. According to inspections in 14 provinces and regions, the effect of the two networks has been satisfactory, said SFDA Director Zhao Mingli at the seminar.

The state will further improve the two networks and measures to this effect include lowering drug prices, simplifying the circulation process, and trying to get more than 80 percent of villages covered by the end of this year, said Shao.
