An office responsible for handling matters regarding the construction of a pilot free trade zone (FTZ) in Pingtan, Fujian province, became operational on Jan 5.
The officials learned about Pingtan's innovation in customs supervision and management measures, and vowed to make more policies pertaining to the FTZ construction.
The FTZ in Pingtan will focus on three sectors – high-tech, port economy and leisure tourism, authorities said.
The Chinese government has been authorized to ease investment rules in three new free trade zones (FTZs) after top legislature gave the go ahead during a bi-monthly meeting on Sunday.
A newly approved free trade zone in Fujian province will be established in March, with the Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone－which will be part of the FTZ－expected to focus on cross-Straits cooperation.
Pingtan and the National Island Research Center signed a Memorandum of Cooperation on Dec 31, agreeing to promote economy.
Three new free trade zones will be established in China from March 1 next year, according to an announcement released on Friday during a regular meeting of the National People's Congress.
